Press Releases:
Big Brothers, Big Sisters Shamrock Sales Support ‘Littles’ at Glynn Archer
KEY WEST (286 words) – A little luck is what Key West High School
students who are mentors with Big Brothers, Big Sisters hope for Friday,
March 16 when they distribute shamrock candy grams to their peers. For the
last several months, the ‘Bigs,’ as the Big Brothers and Big Sisters are
referred to as, have been going to Glynn Archer Elementary every week to
spend time mentoring their ‘littles’ – assigned little brothers and sisters.
All proceeds from the $1 shamrock candy grams support their end-of-year
celebration to honor the littles.
“This is our first year running the mentor program in
partnership with Big Brothers, Big Sisters,” said Monroe Youth Challenge
Program (MYCP) Lower Keys Prevention Coordinator Mindy Vinson.

Change Club at Key West High School.
”We really want to celebrate the progress our littles have made this year
with a special luncheon and personal gift,” Vinson said. The money raised by the
shamrock sales is needed to underwrite expenses to host the formal luncheon at
Glynn Archer later this year.
Friends anticipate buying shamrocks but parents are also encouraged to order
a shamrock for their child enrolled in high school. “We would even ask
businesses or education supporters to consider buying one shamrock for each
student in a first-period class. For less than $50 it could make a group of high
school kids feel lucky – and a group of elementary kids even luckier,” Vinson
said.
Monroe Youth Challenge Program is a project of the Monroe County Education
Foundation to foster acceptance, respect, and success in the youth of Monroe
