TWiecjorek was given the “Scrubba Bubba” lesson plans, video, and Lawless as a mentor to prepare for the presentations she would make at Plantation Key School, Key Largo School, and the Montessori Island Charter School. The tools she was given included top-quality puppets, black lights and light reactive materials to show students how germs are spread, as well as professional display boards. This is the first time Monroe Youth Challenge Program (MYCP) and FKAHEC have partnered to train students as community educators. “We’re very proud of Kara and the students loved what she did. We hope to do more partnerships like this with AHEC,” said Sutter. Both Sutter and AHEC Executive Director Michael Cunningham serve on the Monroe County School District’s Coordinated School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) whose purpose is to create environments at schools that are safe, mentally and physically healthy, and supportive. “MYCP hopes to continue to collaborate with AHEC to assist the SHAC toward this mission,” said Monroe County District Safe School Administrator Sunny Booker. Monroe Youth Challenge Program is a project of the Monroe County Education Foundation to foster acceptance, respect, and success in the youth of Monroe County.
