MYCP Hosts Parent-to-Parent Open Houses Jan. 18, 25

UPPER KEYS (316 words) – Teen drinking, drug abuse, and violence are major issues for youth in the Florida Keys. Because parents play a key role in keeping youth safe, Monroe Youth Challenge Program plans to host two Parent-to-Parent open houses this month. Both meetings are free and open to the public.

The first meeting is to be held 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18 at the Key Largo Library Community Room, 101485 Overseas Hwy. in the Tradewinds Shopping Center. The Sunday, Jan. 25 meeting is set for 6 p.m. in the Roth Building, 50 High Point Road on Plantation Key.

Research shows parents are the biggest influence on whether or not their child takes drugs. Similar findings report they have significant influence on their child when it comes to sex and violence. “Parent-to-Parent, Lessons Learned” is a nationally-recognized curriculum to give parents practical ways to use their power as a parent to stand in the way of their children being poisoned by their toxic environment.

MYCP Director Sunny Booker says, “I hope every parent in Monroe County comes to an open house. It’s essential and helpful.”

The Parent-to-Parent program covers these sessions: The Toxic Culture Revealed; Four Things You Can Do Immediately To Protect Your Child; The Development Of A Toxic Child And How To Recognize It Is Happening; Eleven Ways To Raise A Toxic Child; Three Mandatory Character Traits And How To Get Them; The Word That Nobody Mentions Anymore; When You Should Trust Your Child; The Net And Your Child; plus Seven Parent Traps.
