“Adults are key to making this event happen. Their presence and willingness
to listen can really open doors. It can make students feel safe enough to
express themselves in appropriate ways,” said MYCP Director Sunny Booker.
This nationally-recognized one-day program has helped reduced on- and
off-campus incident reports. In addition, MYCP follows up immediately as
needed and involves youth throughout the school year and summer in
leadership programs.
Volunteers must undergo a background check, at no expense, in order to
work with youth. Applications may be downloaded from the website or
requested by phone. Superintendent of Schools, Randy Acevedo says, “We
welcome volunteers for one or more days. It is a powerful experience for the
adults as much as it is for our students.”
